TechTrack is the Government’s bespoke digital upskilling apprenticeship programme - a unique opportunity to join the Government Digital and Data community leading digital transformation across the country.
The UK Government is embarking on an ambitious digital transformation of public services as outlined in the blueprint for a modern digital government released earlier this year.
Alongside the reskilling of thousands of existing civil servants, TechTrack, our innovative digital apprenticeship programme, is at the heart of a commitment to ensure we have the critical skills needed to revolutionise public services through technology – generating opportunities nationwide and delivering tangible benefits to citizens.
This bespoke programme emphasises the integration of Artificial Intelligence, modern digital skills and leadership, responding to the critical digital skills needed across the country.

This is a fantastic opportunity for individuals with prior management experience, a passion for technology, and a desire to make a real difference as part of the Government Digital and Data community.
The apprenticeship starts at Higher Executive Officer (HEO) level. The programme will support you in developing your skills and experience, with the aim of preparing you to apply for Senior Executive Officer (SEO) roles once you complete the apprenticeship.

TechTrack Summary
Makers Bootcamp
Join a cohort of like-minded, aspiring developers and complete the prestigious 16-week Software Development Bootcamp Course by Makers, delivered remotely by experienced professional Software Engineers.
The training course will cover core technologies you'll need for your new career, as well as skills needed to thrive in a development team including Test Driven Development and Pair Programming.
This training course will also cover leadership skills which will enable you to up-skill and retrain to prepare you for the next steps in your new career.
The programme will last a total of two years, with a combination of bootcamp learning (for the first 16 weeks via Makers) and work placement within a department of the Civil Service.
TechTrack Programme
TechTrack will offer you the unique opportunity to learn additional skills and be part of our new digital community.
The apprenticeship starts at Higher Executive Officer level (HEO). As an existing civil servant, if you are not at HEO level but feel you have the right skills and experience - you can still apply. The programme will equip you to apply for Senior Executive Officer (SEO) roles when completed.

Who Is It Suitable For?
This is the perfect opportunity for individuals who are passionate about tech and want to make a difference as part of the Government Digital and Data community.
This programme will provide the opportunity for both civil servants and new entrants to be recruited into the most in demand data and technology roles.
Successful candidates must pass a disclosure and barring security check and must meet the security requirements before they can be appointed. The level of security required for these roles will depend on which department you join, and will range from BPSS, CTC and SC clearance, with BPSS as a minimum requirement of the roles.
These roles require residency in the UK of a minimum of three years.
Applicants who already hold a formal Level 4 qualification in software development, computer science, information technology, or a related field, or those with a computing degree, may not be eligible for an apprenticeship.
FAQs
Yes, you must have lived in the UK or EEA for the past three consecutive years (not for education purposes) or have refugee status or indefinite leave to remain in the UK. Or have permission from the UK government to live in the UK (not for educational purposes) or have obtained pre-settled or settled status under the EU Settlement Scheme to be eligible for Apprenticeship funding.
As these roles also require a Government clearance with the UK Vetting Service, you will also need to meet the minimum residency requirement of the specific clearance level as well.
SC (Security Check) is a level of UK government security clearance required for roles involving access to sensitive information. The clearance process can take around 12 weeks to complete, although the exact timeframe varies depending on individual circumstances and the checks required.
You will need to successfully pass SC clearance to be eligible for this opportunity.

Yes, you are entitled to a holiday leave package during placement, however we can not allow for leave during Bootcamp Training.
No formal qualifications required, however to comply with Government funding regulations applicants must be aged 16 + at the time of enrollment, not in full time education and must not already hold a qualification at the same level and/or subject e.g computer science or similar.
Applicants must:
- be over 16 years old
- have permission to live and work in the UK
- have an eligibility residency status:
- UK citizens- must have an ordinarily resident in the UK for the last three years
- EU / EEA citizens must have obtained either pre-settled or settled status and have lived continuously in the EEA or the UK in the last three years
- Non EU/EEA citizens- must have permission from the UK government to live in the UK (not for educational purposes) and have been ordinarily resident in the UK for at least the last three years. Those with refugee status or leave to enter/remain may be exempt from the three year rule.
Applicants must not: - be in receipt of a student loan, however, if you are repaying a student loan without receiving payments, you would be eligible for an apprenticeship (this is subject to additional eligibility checks)
- be on another Department For Education funded training programme, including another apprenticeship
- hold a prior qualification at the same or higher level in a subject similar to the apprenticeship.
Applicants will be asked to share key information with us at the start of each application, such as residency status, levels of prior learning and any current Visas held.
